Meet Mrs. Bader

Welcome to First Grade! My name is Janet Bader and I teach first grade in Room 2. I have been a primary grade teacher for 30 years and this is my 22nd year teaching at Washington Elementary School. I grew up in Santa Monica and I attended UCLA to earn my undergraduate degree. I then attended the UCLA Graduate School of Education where I earned my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. I also have a Master of Science in Education in Elementary Reading and Literacy. During my years at Washington School, I was honored to be a Redondo Beach Unified Teacher of the Year, a Los Angeles County Teacher of the Year, and a nominee for California Teacher of the Year. I believe teaching is an amazing job and it is my privilege to be your child’s first grade teacher!

This year, I am looking forward to providing your child with a great first grade experience! First grade is a special year in which children make much social and academic growth. One of my favorite quotes about teaching is by Rita Pierson: “Every child deserves a champion - an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists they become the best they can possibly be.” I will do my best to do this with your child this year and I am excited to start this school year!

I am looking forward to meeting everyone and I hope that you can attend Back to School Night on Thursday, September 13th so that I can share the first grade curriculum and my teaching philosophy.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Bader
